Your digital platform is a cornerstone of your company’s architecture, central to its brand and its growth. That’s why you must know how well it’s performing – or why bother? Ironistic lends valuable insight on what to look for and what tools to use when testing your website’s performance.
The only thing more frustrating than having to wait for a website to load, is for the page not to exist. IronScan is a fabulous tool to ensure your site is not frustrating your users. In addition to testing for load time, IronScan also rates a site’s user experience (Google Usability Index and Mobile-Friendly Test) and search engine experience (MOZ SEO Index, GT Metrix Speed Index, Number of Backlinks, Sitemap.xml Detection, Robots.xml Detection, and Security Certificate detection). These reports will provide the best guidance for immediate improvements needed.
There are a number of free online tools that will test a website’s performance but the one Ironistic usually relies on is GTMetrix. With this tool, it will generate a report and give you a lot of handy stats to see how fast your website is performing and what could be improved by grading certain factors with a letter score. From my experience the usual suspects that slow down a site are Javascript not being deferred, images not being optimized, and CSS not being minified.
Ironscan.io is a website evaluation tool built to provide users with an instant analysis of any website. Just type in a URL and you’ll be able to see an in-depth, comprehensive overview of the site’s strengths and weaknesses. Ironscan.io can provide the following pieces that you should be looking for when checking your website’s performance: Google Usability Index, Moz SEO Index, GTmetrix Speed Index, Load Time, Number of Backups, Sitemap.xml detection, Robots.txt Detection, SSL Certificates Detection, and Google Mobile-Friendly Test.
One of the best tools for testing website performance is GTmetrix. We look for load times, page size, and the number of requests. With this information, we can better tweak/optimize a website by reducing the number of requests, reduce page size/images, which in return will reduce the load times.
When testing website performance, I utilize GTmetrix. It gives you insight on how well the site loads and provides recommendations on how to optimize it. When testing performance, I am looking for the page load time, total page size and total # of requests. This tool answers all of these questions and allows me to focus on any areas that need improvement.
