Content Writer

I’m a content writer for Ironistic, and I love being part of the Ironistic family. While reading my bio, you may be wondering, “Why is she a content writer?” Well, hopefully it will make sense by the time you finish.

I graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pre-Medicine/International Relations. I postponed plans for a medical career to take advantage of the opportunity to become an Intelligence Officer in the Navy….Twenty-two years later, after a successful, fun and exciting career that took me all over the world (as the brochure says!) I retired to support my husband’s Navy career and become a full-time mother to my four kids. After a few years of enjoying that “full-time” experience in bella Napoli, we moved to North Carolina where life was a bit less exciting and I found I had more time on my hands. As luck would have it, I happened to have a chat with my good friend and former northern Virginia neighbor, Rita Foss, one summer day in 2016 about what I was interested in doing…. and that discussion led to my current job as a content writer for Ironistic; and I love it! (Did I mention that already?)

One of the things that has served me well throughout my life – and certainly my Navy career – has been my ability to write. I’ve written extensively during my various military assignments from producing analytic pieces, drafting executive correspondence for leadership, writing my Master’s thesis, and everything in between. Fortunately, I love to write – and edit, for that matter. I get excited about taking a jumbled piece of material and crafting it into something cohesive and interesting. (My children don’t always appreciate it!) Towards the end of my Navy career, I combined my love of writing with my passion for running when I wrote a regular Military Running Scene column for the Washington Running Report from 2010-2013.

I currently work with several Ironistic digital strategists and project managers to support a wide range of clients by writing and editing blogs, white papers, social media posts, and articles. I enjoy the diversity of the assignments I work on because I learn something new every time – and I firmly believe you can never stop learning.

Some fun facts about me:

  • I was born in Sydney, Australia and lived on 4 continents/5 different countries, before moving back to the U.S. in 7th grade.
  • I’m an avid runner with a passion for health and fitness (just like Rita!), and my most memorable experience was running in the Athens Marathon on a gorgeous sunny day in 2011. I finished stride-for-stride with 1984 Olympic marathon gold medal winner Joan Benoit Samuelson, in the original Olympic stadium – I’ll never forget it!
  • Every year I write a Christmas poem, a tradition I started while on deployment in Diego Garcia in 1993. If you’re lucky enough to get on my Christmas list, you can get a copy too!
