Website Launch for New I-66 Beltway Construction Project

The Transform66 Project will allow an estimated 2,000 – 4,000 more drivers per hour through the I-66 Corridor from the Beltway to Gainesville

DMV traffic is legendary, and not in a good way. It’s one of the few places in the nation where you can bet on a weekday backup at some point in your commute. To combat rising congestion, VDOT recently awarded I-66 Express Mobility Partners (I-66 EMP) a 50-year contract to revamp I-66 from 495 to Gainesville, Virginia. The Outside the Beltway project is expected to take a little over four years to complete and will provide area residents with several benefits, including allowing an estimated 2000-4000 more people per hour through the I-66 corridor outside the beltway, adding 22.5 miles of new express lanes, improving interchanges for more safety and less congestion, expanded transit options and creating 11 miles of new bike and pedestrian trails.

With this massive undertaking, I-66 EMP needed an online platform to increase public awareness and publicize the project’s benefits for commuters, area businesses, and potential partners. Ironistic is proud to be I-66 EMP’s choice for this website build as well as its coordinating app. We are providing digital strategy, website design and development through two phases, as well as hosting and maintenance services. Phase one of this project was launched by Ironistic last month.

The website, https://66expresspartners.com, offers visually compelling designs with striking video hero areas, engaging infographics, and an interactive map where real-time data populates from the Virginia Department of Transportation. In the Project Overview feature, visitors can learn about the project’s benefits and timeline, view photos, and find E-ZPass info. Users can also check Traffic Notices or work zone safety tips and discover job and partnership opportunities.

Speaking of opportunities, I-66 EMP supports local, disadvantaged, women-owned, and minority-owned businesses. Right now, the project is seeking certified DBE/SWaM vendors to assist with the I-66 Outside the Beltway project. Interested persons can contact I-66 EMP at [email protected].

The other big aspect of this project was I-66 EMP’s companion app development. Ironistic built versions for both iOS and Android and designed it so that it complements the website while maintaining user-friendly service across all platforms. App users can receive traffic and construction alerts relevant to their commute via geolocation technology, and the app also provides links to social media and the most important information from the website.
