DC traffic is legendary – to put it mildly. The flux of Maryland, Virginia, and DC combined with the economic draw to the heart of our nation’s government makes traffic a constant headache. In order to combat rising congestion, VDOT recently awarded I-66 Express Mobility Partners (I-66 EMP) a 50-year contract to revamp I-66 from 495 to Gainesville, Virginia. The project is expected to take a little over four years to complete and will provide area residents with several benefits, including allowing an estimated 2000-4000 more people per hour through the I-66 corridor outside the beltway, adding 22.5 miles of new express lanes, improving interchanges for more safety and less congestion, and creating 11 miles of new bike and pedestrian trails.
With this massive, new undertaking, I-66 Express Mobility Partners needed an online platform to paint the picture for a wide variety of audiences – not just commuters, but area businesses and potential partners. The website needed to effectively increase public awareness and publicize the project’s benefits. Key aspects of reaching these goals would include creating a visually appealing design that engages users, implementing smart navigation and dynamic functionality, and building a parallel app.
For all that and more, I-66 EMP came to Ironistic. The design seamlessly integrates their logo, colors, and branding throughout the site. The overall tone is professional, clean and modern. The striking video hero area on the home page immediately draws in the user and encourages them to find out more while call-to-actions and bold infographics prompt users to view the interactive map, download the app, view the project video, and follow recent updates.
Other goal-oriented features include Project Overview, where visitors can easily learn about the project’s benefits and timeline, job and partnership opportunities, and Traffic Notices. Site navigation also makes it easy for visitors to find press releases, E-ZPass info, and work zone safety tips.
The other big aspect of I-66 EMP’s project was their app development. We built versions for both iOS and Android and designed it so that it mirrors the website while maintaining a clean, streamlined feel across platforms. It offers links to social media and push notifications as well as all the important details about the construction – basically, acting as complementary, mobile partner for 1-66 EMP’s main site.
Ironistic is proud of this site’s functionality and the awesome work from our rockstar team of designers and engineers. We’re also proud to be a part of a project like I-66 EMP that’s destined to have a lasting, positive impact on our region. Get ready to drive, DC!
